June 9th marked a significant date at the Robert Pope Foundation. Mr. Doug Pope became the new President of the Foundation as Dr. Jock Murray stepped down from this role.
Doug Pope, brother to the late Robert Pope, joined the Board of Directors two years ago. He brings an important presence to the Board as a writer, educator, filmmaker and member of the Pope family with special knowledge of his brother Robert’s art practice and the history of the Foundation.
“I look forward to taking on the role of President and at the same time am extremely grateful for the wonderful work that Dr. Jock Murray has done building the Foundation. He helped my father Bill in the development of the Foundation since its 1992 inception and after my father’s death four years ago, he took on the role of President providing exemplary leadership of the Foundation. I am very glad we will continue to benefit from Jock’s knowledge and expertise as he continues with us as a member of the Board of Directors.”
Dr. Murray responded, “It has been a pleasure doing the good work of the Robert Pope Foundation all these many years.” He congratulated Doug on becoming the new President wishing him all the best in this role.
As an expression of appreciation for everything Dr. Murray has done for the Foundation, the Board presented Jock with a high quality reproduction of Robert Pope’s painting entitled Window (seen in the above photo).
